PILEMA is a NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (NGO) registered as a Private Company, Limited by guarantee at The Registrar General's Department under the Ministry of Justice.
PILEMA's mission is to provide, at the tertiary level, specialized and general education to those engaged in the provision of security services to Government, public and private organizations. The ultimate objective is to help develop in Africa a security industry capable of competing internationally.
PILEMA's potential students are those in the Armed Forces, Police Service, Immigration,
Custom, Prisons and Fire Service personnel,
Internal Revenue Service (IRS), VAT service, Banks and Financial Institutions. Additionally, SSSCE holders without any relevant working experience are acceptable subject to their passing an entrance examination. The need for the provision of this level of training for those
targeted cannot be overemphasized. As of now in Ghana, every service organization
provides training for itself and rarely extends this beyond its immediate domain, when in actual fact a cross fertilization of ideas embracing all service providers is clearly beneficial. This is what PILEMA aims at doing. PILEMA is also capable of providing technical and scientific training at a higher level than is presently available in the West African sub region.
PILEMA's main objectives are:
..: To produce security personnel of the highest calibre for the delivery of security services, to enhance the profile of the Ghanaian and African security industry.
..: To expose local security providers to excellent techniques within the industry in order to enhance the opportunities of Ghanaian security personnel in the market.
..: To create international links with other Law enforcement and Management schools for exchange programs;
PILEMA stands out among other law enforcement schools in being able to sustain excellence in the training of students in the security industry to the highest standard of professionalism and creativity.
PILEMA students will develop collaborative and specialist professional skills through classroom lectures practical workshops and field projects. These projects will be supported by seminars that analyse working methods with reference to students’ theory. A separate strand of course study expands student understanding of the security industry. All courses are led by a team of experienced permanent and part-time teaching staff from various professional and academic backgrounds.
